Book Review: Floating Haiku - Shalini Yadav

Floating Haiku by Shalini Yadav is a collection of Haiku and some images which are inspiring lessons of enormous value from the point of view of ethics and aesthetically its content is generally a reminder of the fleeting nature and observation of reality and is, therefore, a very visual poem, which in a nutshell shakes the human soul and draws deep emotional nuances.

Not all yet know about the haiku. In its extreme brevity, the haiku is perhaps the genre that best expresses the Japanese sensibility, which prefers the illusion, the hint, the fragment to the completeness and redundancy. This lyric was born in Japan and is characterized by a metrical structure of seventeen on a phonetic unit of the eastern base respectively on three lines of five, seven, and five syllables.

The level of the poems is undoubtedly very high and the reader will be bowled over to the wealth of images and feelings that can evoke from three lines comprising the love for nature, the romantic paintings, the melancholic irony, attention to the social problems.

The volume is a small gem that contains moments of great depth and infinite poetic delicacy and is highly recommended to those who are attracted to this type of opera, and those who still do not know and they want to learn the technique, because next to more graceful and playful haiku can also be found haiku that reflect accurately and meticulously thought Zen.

The poems that are through a few syllables express the perfect communion between feelings and essences that binds man and nature which has the space of a breath, that holds time in its eternal flow with rich intense refinement and naturalness in the pictures by the same author and in most cases are inspired by the natural world with apparently no obvious connection, leaving the reader the emotional space necessary to penetrate the time described.

The verses accompanied by color photos and illustrations are simple, succinct, unpretentious, harmonious and especially short. An easy read, fast, undemanding, maybe to play when you have little time to devote to books, but they also want to engage in something that gives the pleasant emotions.

This kind of poetic relaxes, and serves as a calming effect from everyday stress that life offers us, unfortunately. The intent of this book is to bring the language to its purest essence, primitive, and thus to create a fusion between thought and image without any unnecessary words and its immediate inspiration comes from the soul, without filters, a poetic form that reflects the essence.

The poems in the book aim to capture a vision, a state of mind, feelings that are manifested in moments of meditation and solitude and it is worth having if you are passionate about all that is Japanese and in particular of this kind of poetry.
