Book Review: Twisted: Lola Smirnova

Twisted by Lola Smirnova has eroticism, love and a lot of sympathies, a little for the protagonist, a little for the story told, surreal, modern, but also compelling in the backdrop of the 90s, in the shady post-Soviet Ukraine with its stumbling financial system, thrown into a shattering misery.

Three youthful and raring to go sisters Natalia, Lena and Julia reverie of a better existence and meditate on their options to hang about and struggle like their parents, or join scores of their nationals in the sex trade in gleaming western European cities, who take home in a night what they'd take more than a few months to earn at home.

Immature and tempted by the magnetism of quick riches, the girls set off on an escapade that changes their lives everlastingly as for prudent, pliant and shrewd Lena and Natalia, the changeover to the underworld of Luxembourg's illusory champagne bars is eye-opening and smooth other than for frail, delicate Julia, troubled by a infancy battering, the alteration is further than just occupational.

Struggling to settle in, she turns to alcohol and drugs, divulging herself to rising risk as well as wantonness and, in the end, treachery, when a cunning patron, who claims to adore her, drugs her and cleans her out and then she finds herself in Istanbul in an effort to make back the funds and sense of worth she's lost.

Susceptible devoid of the shield of Luxembourg's champagne bars, she descends into a hell of drugs and high-risk sex until, at the novel's dreadful culmination, a kidnapping, fierce attack and prejudiced justice structure lead to her detention and a warning of extradition.

We will approach this book with the sexual expectations, but there is also another. There is a simple and original plot, hot and sensual, fresh and modern where
in this kind of books you would expect to find pages with erotic adventures but in this book there is almost a twist!

It is an erotic book but contains in itself also very important issues with a nice book though, and a very light reading, which can be read in a day, having a brisk pace, but nothing more with a compelling novel that captivates the heart of the reader from the first pages.

The suspense is very simple and blends well between the protagonists and being an erotic novel, be prepared to detailed descriptions but nothing extreme as seems to be the fashion of recent times or vulgar with a novel, engaging, well-written, intense, with the right amount of action and with that something extra that makes it different than other novels of the same kind.

With a story, full of eroticism, but also moments of intense and shocking suspense, indeed, it is the latter, the suspense ingredient that makes it exciting and incomparable with other novels of and is a story full of romance that will warm up the hearts and at the same time be able to give shape to your forbidden fantasies.

A book to read to pass the time, certainly not a masterpiece, but smooth with the choice of characters only heightens the fabulous and unreal side with the pen of the author simply reports sexual fantasies on paper, broken paintings of torture, frescoes impalements and lashes, and the reader-viewer has to make a choice who can sit and contemplate the result, frightened but enraptured by such audacity, or close the book.

Here we need strong stomachs and ability to look into the well of the soul, in the darkness deeper and if you love to lean out the curious, and risk, this trilogy can reserve you many surprises with the mix of language, always fabulous and at the same time erotic, that makes this first volume, in which the awakening is the literal one.
