Book Review: Transganization - Rohit Arora

Transganization by Rohit Arora covers important ground providing some admirable insights into the processes within an Organization. Since the organization is a living gamut, it also evolves and grows like a living being and consequently the placement of precincts may shift wherein the challenge lies in finding the right balance of limitless behaviour, to determine how permeable to make precincts, and the location of its placement.

The author suggests the ways to break through the shackles of organizational structure and present an instructive elucidation of the opportunities and the vertical, horizontal, external, and geographic constraints faced by an organization at diverse levels. The book does not advocate the full riddance of these precincts, which is impractical; nonetheless, it suggests ways to reorganize them, so that an organization can flourish with best use of its limited resources.

The fabric is presented within seven parts along with a conclusion and final thoughts of the author. The first part explains how to achieve ‘Change’, which is an inevitable truth and the principles that should guide it regarding what to change, when to change and how to change; the second explains the evolutionary process in an organization and crisis-management in different periods that may arise out of autonomy or leadership issues; the third explains the value-chain in a market and nonmarket environment and the forces behind it; the fourth is about the way to raise funds efficiently to fuel growth after analyzing the costs and the mechanisms available for financing thoroughly.

The fifth emphasizes on creating and improving processes and systems which improve efficiency, saves time and help in quick decision making to sustain growth; the sixth is about the way organizations can construct and deploy man-power for exercising a turnaround with creativity of thoughts and in the seventh part the author explain the virtues of leadership, interaction and communication to manage the boundary less organization. Then in the Conclusion, the authors discuss about a real organization which adopted some of the above strategies and rose to higher echelons.

The models described by the author are helpful tools for business owners, so that they can make focused decisions concerning the ways to move forward in a competitive world and Rohit pulls from an extensive body on information and real-world cases to sustain these frameworks.

To avoid falling into a restrictive approach, it lays out clearly the choices that businesses have which will take care of the organization's goals or culture.

Overall, this is a well-written thoughtful handbook for decision-makers as well as professionals in any organization regardless of size or nature to thrive in the new world order.
The book provides the perspective on the way businesses can use the frameworks for effective decision-making by understanding their own cultural boundaries and then move on to individual and team goal setting, resource allocation, planning, strategic feedback and learning.

Even for professionals, it contains a hands-on set of problem-solving instruments as well as tools through which they can determine where they or their organization stands and the ways the gap can be eliminated between where it is at present and where it should be relative to the transganization paradigm. The book is a definitive guide for top level managers, executives at all levels and the ones quickly rising to these posts to understand how the efficiency and profitability can be improved directly and indirectly by using these tools.
